Sewing Toys For Your Pet

Did you get a Christmas puppy this year? I DID!

This is Leia.

Small softies can be made entirely in the hoop of your embroidery machine, making them super easy to construct. With a few modifications to traditional toy softies for kids, you can make them safe for your puppy to enjoy, too!

These monkeys are made of micro fleece, but can also be made in a strong cotton, canvas or even sherpa, which dogs seem to enjoy.

To avoid possible choking hazards, it’s necessary to modify this design to omit the upper ribbon loops–just skip those stitches and advance steps to stitch the head closed. Also, if you wish, place a squeaker under the belly patch before stitching that piece to the monkey belly. Then your pet can have fun squeaking the day away.

This little pig softie can also be modified in the same way. Skip the steps for the rickrack tail. Add a squeaker in with the stuffing if you wish!

I think Leia is going to love these. She’s already getting so big!
