| Follow these tips
to add beautiful beaded accents to your scarf.
- Choose a beading thread such as Nymo, or a good quality polyester
sewing thread.
- Larger beads may be sewn with a standard needle, but a beading
needle is necessary for beads with very small holes, such as seed
beads.
Size
10 or 11 seed beads are very stitch-friendly. Delicas and bugle
beads often have sharp edges that could weaken the thread. Note:
Cushion the edges of sharp bugle beads with seed beads as shown
(A).
|
|
- Expect the thread to show a bit, so match the color to the fabric
or choose one that blends with the bead colors.
Make
an overhand knot in the thread and bring the needle out on the
right side of the fabric. Make a tiny stitch through the fabric
as a safety stitch. Thread tension should be just enough to hold
the beads to the surface without puckering the fabric. To end
stitching, make a safety stitch, followed by a knot (B).
|
|
When
attaching fringe to an edge, make plenty of safety stitches to
strengthen the attachments and prevent puckering of the fabric
edge between each strand of fringe. String several beads, stitch
through another bead at the end of the strand and back through
the same bead string; knot through the fabric (C).
