Notes From Ellen
Hooray for summer! The school year no longer governs our daily regime; the weather no longer determines our likelihood of leaving the house; and our sewing rooms no longer look like a tornado casualty (since we’ve done our massive spring cleaning… fingers crossed). We should have all the time and space in the world to make all of the new summer embroidery projects in this issue, right?
Well if you’re like me, you have good intentions. You may purchase all of the needed supplies, and then can’t imagine being cooped up at the embroidery machine because it’s a record-breaking hot day. Or the vacation planned back in March came faster than expected. Or there’s some other
excuse that gets you away from the sewing room and outside enjoying the sunshine. Who can blame you, after all?
But we know that sewing and embroidery is your sanity, your creative outlet, your stress reliever. So we’ve put together some quick-and-easy projects that will have you back outside enjoying the warm weather in no time…and you’ll have something to show off while you’re sipping iced tea by the pool. Embellish last year’s swimsuit for a glamorous makeover (page 44). Celebrate July 4 with a festive tablescape featuring firework motifs (page 38). Make a headband in no time that costs less than a couple of lattes (page 26). Or personalize a new travel bag to tote around your essentials while vacationing
this summer (page 34).
Speaking of vacations, I encourage you to check out some of the exciting sewing and embroidery events in your area this summer. CME will be at Martha’s Sewing Market in Arlington, TX, from June 18 to 20. We hope to see you there! And check in with the editor’s blog at cmemag.com if you’re unable to attend. I’ll be sharing photos, stories and new product finds from the show (and each show we attend this summer).
