When I think of summer, I think of hiking and swimming, reading and lounging and ice cream and popsicles. Doing anything outdoors and enjoying the sunshine improves everyone’s outlook on life. The fresh air, the buzz of the community and summer celebrations, such as the Fourth of July, rejuvenate and energize our spirits. It may get too hot for much physical activity, but that’s nothing a cool burst of water from the sprinklers won’t cure.
This time of year is full of reasons to embroider: birthday presents, soccer team shirts, summer weddings and new wardrobe pieces. This issue is sure to inspire you with even more ideas. “Sweet Treat” (pictured above right) is a great project for birthdays, but can also be used throughout summer to invite guests inside for a treat. “Cloud Cover” is a stunning lightweight throw that also features a cool technique. “Budget Friendly: Stabilizer Organizer” is my personal favorite. If you have stabilizer rolls all over your sewing room, this practical organizer will help you conquer the clutter and save time while gathering supplies for your next embroidery project. Plus, it costs next to nothing to create.
All of us want to save money and conserve no matter what time of year it is. That’s why we’ve included “Pucker Prevention” in this issue. There’s nothing worse than stitching a 40-minute design and watching it pucker before your eyes when it’s removed from the hoop. Learning tips and techniques for perfecting each embroidery stitchout helps us from wasting fabric, thread, stabilizer and time.
Enjoy your summer!
